CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME

27/8/2014

On American Independence Day the Parentals found the Charity Litter and eight weeks later they were re-homed to four amazing families who will give them all the very best chance in life.  There really was a kitten for everyone and each one was a meeting of fate.

Momma had taken three kittens into the BBC Local radio station and everyone had oohed and ahhed at them and one lady 'just popping through' from her morning shift as a producer, set eyes upon tiny Tortee and instantly said, "We have been talking about getting a cat for our daughter, I will be in touch." And in touch she was, Vanessa came and met Tortee again and also fell in love with her Mum Hope. She said that her 5yr old had always wanted a cat called Poppy and that Meg would suit Mum.  So that was it. Perfect home in a calm and loving environment with gentle people and a real family for the two young cats to settle into, their home is so large, we hope they don't get lost!

Agnes and her family were strolling through the Pet Show at Stoneleigh where Faith and Lillibet were on show and asked about the Charity Litter from a poster that was displayed and immediately they selected Ginge and said "Could we come and visit?" It was love at first sight and Ginge just loved the children, all the other kittens just hid away.  He was meant to be homed with his brother Fly, but little fly was having none of it... his home was waiting just a week away and he must have felt it in his whiskers!  Ginge just walked into his new home, ate the other cats lunch and declared it home!

After advertising them for the first time, we had a phone call about the big boys, Trout & Paws. The incredible duo who just loved each other so much - always washing and playing together and what could be more perfect than a delightful family with two young boys of the same gentle nature as Paws & Trout!  They were finally named Albie & Jango which really suits them both and we hear that they are now settled in well after a traumatic day when the Parentals delivered them of Jango hiding under the sofa!  He is now out and about and both boys are enjoying play time and fuss.  They will make such lovely big cats.

And finally, little man Fly, the tiniest and sweetest kitten of the litter. He was also a terror and VERY independent. Although when people came to view him, he hid away and Momma wasn't happy and therefore he didn't go to that home, but when Ken and Mazi turned up, he showed them a little of what he was like. He is a real peoples cat and likes his humans to be quiet and gentle and this retired couple just floated his boat. He is now keeping both of them on their toes and running rings around them and up to no good! The second he walked into their plush carpeted home, he said, "Oh yes.. this will do very nicely, thank you." It was a match made in heaven.

It takes a considerable amount of time and patience to bring up young cats, make them sociable and the last 8 weeks have been up and down and if it hadn't been for the people on social networking and cat clubs and vets and sheer will power on the Parentals part, they wouldn't be here today, in their new homes, safely delivered with toys and litter and food.  It was a little miracle that they all fought so hard to live and each family is so thrilled with their new babies and the Maystar Gang is thrilled for them and a little sad to lose such well adjusted and gentle babies.

The House of Fun is quiet. It lays empty once more. No thundering of tiny paws, no one to greet you on a cold morning and no one staring at you from across the CatPods. It sure is weird and Faith is saddened that she didn't even get to play with them, but Momma is a stickler for hygiene and they were barrier nursed the whole 8 weeks of their stay. It's all because of me and my lack of immune system!

But... do I hear rumbling of a newby? Watch this space!

THE COLD SHOULDER

We really do not know what Momma is playing at.  Only last month Lillibet & I were locked out in the CatPod for a few hours in the cold and damp and now today the very same thing has happened to Faith. Of course, Lillibet and I were thrilled to see Momma's face at the patio door wielding noms left, right and centre. We forgave her stupidity quite quickly.

Faith though, takes things to the extreme. She is a highly delicate creature and holds a grudge.  She has this habit of dashing under the table and hiding in the box on top of the catposts and watching the birdies. She never makes a squeak and unless she is seen, it is presumed that she is in!

I remember once, and I am going back a number of years before CatPods and even CatWomen were here and I had been pootling about in the garden on a summers day and found myself locked out for a whole afternoon.  It was quite nice at first, lounging around in the Orb shine and then I needed a wee wee.  I was so good, I didn't go anywhere, but held it all afternoon until the Parentals came home to find me and my full bladder pressed up against the patio door in anticipation of being let in.  It was one of the nicest wees I have ever had. I was in the tray for ever, whistling away!

So, what to do with Faith now she is in a funny mood?  She was pressed in between the outer cat flap and the inner cat flap bashing away to create a din, squeezed into the wall cavity yelling her head off. In my opinion, why it took her two hours to ask is beyond me... but then again, the patio door is triple glazed and I bet she beat her tiny feet on that for awhile before hand? Momma opened the inner catflap. nothing?  She opened the door, nothing? Nope she was hiding again. GAH. She had spotted Lillibet in one of those 'it's behind you' moments and decided that Lillibet was an alien from outer space - well, I can see the resemblance.  They danced a dozy-doe and fluffed their tails at which point Faith was swept up and rubbed warm.  OK, she was already warm, but her tiny paws and huge ears were not!

We shall all wait with baited breath to see if her 'hypothermiated' body and fragile mind have recovered enough to recognise us when she wakes from her deep traumatic sleep!

A BIT OF THEIR TIME AND A BIT OF ME TIME

20/8/2014

There is one thing that we all find more important than any other and that is quality time with Momma.  Ok, so ManSlave is OK, but Momma time is special.  It's the time when each of us has a special moment each day and it takes place when none of the others are around. It's quiet time and it's made just for us.
Picture
Lillibet starts the day with her time, usually in the morning, after the feeding and cleaning have been done early morning and Momma brings a cup of herbal back to bed and it's this time that Lillibet sneaks in and lays on Momma and snuggles right in and purrs. Occasionally, she might take her time, but as soon as the cover is drawn back, she nips over the top, stepping over the blankie and lays on Momma's chest or in the crook of her arm.  It may only last a few minuted with Lillibet, she is ever so busy and these moments are the ones I see Momma smiling at to start her day.  If Lillibet doesn't get 'this' moment, she takes another moment, a moment as the Parentals exit the shower and wrap their towel around and BAM, there is a Lillibet velcroed to their chests in a, well, strange leggie purring cuddle. It sure is unique!!!

Faith is the enticer. She is the one that will squeak and squeak and find things to 'entice' Momma up to the Kitten Room - her room! Be it a toy or just her standing on the bed wailing until Momma goes and checks on her, then she will stand on her head, Faith, not Momma, and roll about displaying 'love me' silliness and then she will trot after Momma and jump on the beds and want a quick 10minute cuddle, where she snuggles in and purrs and purrs until she falls asleep and Momma covers her with a blankie and she sleeps a happy sleep.

Now me, I am the true deserver, the others are happy with the extra hour of games each evening, chasing the 'Frenzy' or playing fetch, but me, I don't go In for such frivolities. Oh no, I like at least an hour all to myself and make quite a din until I am given what I need and what is essentially mine by right! After dinner Noms, I YAWP. This is when Momma makes their dinner and I YAWP the whole time until she is finished and then I run around YAWPING even louder until they have finished and I may even THWAK a the CatWomen if they are awake. Then as soon as the dishes are cleared away and drying up done, all of which I have YAWPED through, I get to have MY TIME! Kissing and cuddling on the sofa, keeping one eye out for ManSlave as he pfffts at me as I get kissed and kiss Momma. I purr and puff my whisker pads out and open my mouth a tIny bit to make it more audible and it resonates through the room. I am a champion purrer and kisser and paw padder - but only for an hour and then I am done for a whole night and I start again the following day.  If I don't get me time - their time is miserable!

ROCK AND ROLL

Horrible Horace the garden Squirrel has been a bit of an annoyance recently.  Not only has he shown Topy & Bimbo who is now boss by thrashing the smaller squirrels, he has also taken up residence and brought his girlfriend along to see the garden and propose to her. He was a little forward and got a slap around his musher and she was off.

Just the other day Horace was entertaining us by bounding across the lawn, all 20 of our eyes on him. The Charity Litter's eyes were out on stalks and Faith was chattering so much I couldn't hear my self think. There was also lots of drooling going on as to me he just looks like fresh meat!  Well, I digress, he was bounding and stopping and looking at all of us flanking each side of him and Ipek following up the rear, so he made for the washing line prop. He got half way up to the knobbly bit and waited, asessing his route out. He scampered up the slidy part of the pole, but it was greasy and he slid back down to until his bum perched on the prop stopper. He looked concerned and so he should with 10 hungry cats baying for his blood.

He made a leap to the washing line and skittered across to the bird feeder, only to find a fat pidgeon wedged between the framwork and they had a tustle. Faith is screaming now, I look like I have eaten a small tennis shoe (the drool you know) and the kittens are enthralled and have never sat so still. But Horrible Horace falls to the ground gracefully and bounds over to the now very naked patch of earth where gravel once was and selects himself a hunk of 20mm gravel and swivels it around and around in his mouth but it is rough, so he discards it and finds one with the look and feel of a very large nut. He then bounds away to the center of the lawn and burries it.  ManSlave will curse him on Saturday when the grass gets cut and he has to check the lawn for rocks!  The last time he mowed, he nearly took out next doors dog with flying debris that Horrible Horace had depositied!

I can't help but think that this beautifully, well kept, dapper young Squirrel will find it a little tough when winter comes and all he has to eat is hidden gravel.  I suppose he does know where half of our garden is, which is more than I can say for us.. it's slowly vanishing, day by day into pots, peg pags & out door shoes. He is one mad little rodent who may have a ery tough winter with no noms!

A VERY BUSY WEEK

10/8/2014

Sometimes you have one of these weeks where there seems to be no end in sight.  Well it's no different at Maystar HQ. This week has seen Uncle Paul in and out of Hospital after his big operation on his bronchial tubes.  he looks like he has been attacked by a great white shark! Well, that's the story I would tell if I had a wound that big, but come to think of it... I would just be shark bait!

Grand MewMew came up for a visit and stayed the night, I tried to get into her room, but fell for the 'snax' given late at night in the kitchen and forgot all about sleeping in with her! She was great company and even let Lillibet sit on the edge of the table whilst she ate her dinner. That's more than she let me, my reputation precedes me on this subject!

There were people looking at the Charity Litter and three of the kittens are now re-homed. They will leave us in a week or so.  On Friday, they were all neutered and microchipped.  Finally, no more kittens from this little lot in the future to get into trouble.  They were so busy when Momma collected them and they were under strict instructions not to race about- fat chance of that. They were crazy on their return home and even confining them to a small pen made them worse and they were literally climbing the bars to escape!

Momma has been on the Radio as well trying to get the litter re-homed.  There are 2 or 3 to go. Fly, Paw & Trout!!  Who could not love them?  Keep your ears to the ground in case one of your friends is in the market for a new pusser or two.

Momma is meant to be at a SPSCC meeting this morning and she has had to turn back due to torrential rain. Her Yellow Peril Chrysler was not at all happy paddling through the surface water.  ManSlaves car windscreen has a crack in it the whole length this morning too, so there was no swimming to Ayelesbury in that either.  Well, of course, we don't mind, we get her all to ourselves now and the thought of wrapping in a warm blankie with the heating on is much more appealing than watching the rain paste the windows.... Wonder if the Charity Litter may need arm bands?  Well, they have a litter tray, they could float about in that!

Well, I think a little nap is in order, it's been very hectic indeed and I can smell last nights Ribs on the re-heat, so a quick shut eye and then a YAWP fest to get me some piggie ribs.

FEISTY WEE BEASTIES

6/8/2014

There is some serious growing going on in the House of Fun.  Those Maystar Charity Kittens are just growing and growing.  They have oodles of food carried in and none of it seems to pass through the house even for testing, which, in my opinion, is unfair!  It seems that it doesn't need testing!  It piles in and piles come out in the form of little nappy sacks full of chocolate gold!

The Momma cat "Hope" who has now been renamed MUMMY MEG has stopped her advances towards me, she is no longer in the running for a stud muffin and has turned her attentions to Horrible Horace who has been stealing gravel and digging it into Momma's veggie boxes.  She can't keep her eyes of him and Horace, being horrible, knows how to tease her!  He runs along the roof of the House of Fun and then tiptoes down the fence post, right into the 'spray zone', pinches his rock of choice and runs along the side of their CatPod carrying his trophy and promptly digs it into a pot - right outside the window!  GAH.  He is one teasing dude! Meg "Hope" has her eyes set firmly to excitement as he goes about his chores, her vision of a pure white love puppet with a black ear and moustache is no longer on her agenda, she has a rodent fetish! YAWP!

Faith is insanely jealous of the babies and wants one desperately.  She has tried, on a number of occasions, to sneak out of the CatPod and claim one for herself.  She croons to them all when they are playing and chirrups at Meg "Hope" and Meg chirrups back.  Well, she is just a baby herself and Faith does put on quite a show.  In reality, I don't think a meeting would go down too well. Faith would grab the babies and run! She is that type of woman.  I am sure she would have brought milky down for them at a moments notice.  Talking of milky, finally, Megs milk has dried up and they are no longer sucking too much from her.  It will take time and so will she to heal, but being homed with her daughter will keep her happy.

Tortee has a new home with her Mum and will now be called Poppy, this suits her SO MUCH! ManSlave calls her and she comes running and she lays and has her tummy tickled now, such a change from that scared little missy.  Ginge also has a new home and will go to live in the next town.  The other three big boys are still searching for their forever homes and it needs to happen soon as they are getting big and bold.  They are now 12 weeks old and have grown so much - I don't think I would take on a pack of pipsqueaks, on or two yes, but a pack - no way.  I have seen what they did to ManSlaves private parts after they were neutered!!! ::eyes watering::

SHOW STOPPER

Lillibet & Faith went to the Pet Show to show people of the UK a Devon Rex.  Well, we all know that Lillibet is not the best example, but if nothing else she made a huge impression and was a real super star. She lapped up the attention and really showed her self off in a good light.  He Mother on the other hand did not enjoy the event and managed only a short stint on the table and by the time a few hundred people had stroked her beautiful coat, she expressed that she would prefer it back in her pen.

Lillibet lay in her bed all day and wore her bandana like a pro and was happy to be touched and fussed. Momma had a piece of lovely material which felt just like a real Devon Rex, so got people to stroke that as none of the Devons on the day had any coat - except for Faith! It worked well.  They would look at Lillibet, Momma would explain about the Devons and where they came from and why Lillibet was a little different - then they looked at Faith in her pen and stroked the fur.  it worked very well. Everyone got to touch a cat, feel the material then look at one who was sitting showing off her curls but didn't want to be petted.  It was a good day really

I think if I had been there, I would have won the crowds over and been the peoples choice, but alas, with my skin and not being vaccinated, there is no change of me ever going and strutting my stuff!  Styrofoam Slinky went in my place an I got a few new Facebook friends!

    QUEEN VEE

    OFFICIAL BLOG SPOT
Since 2012 King Slinky has written and devoted his life to his loyal subjects, but with his passing in October 2016 someone had to be successor to the crown.

The position now falls to Queen Vee.  She is now the reining 'blog' monarch here at Maystar HQ.

Vee lives with her  Sister Flaire, her great great grandaughter, Gazoo she is also great Aunt to SaBreena, friends with Faith and Lillibet and distant second cousin Mae.  We also have reigning Kings Elton & Eros who are related to each other but not the queens.
