Getting Mambo was a bit of a crazy decision as I actually thought I was helping a breeder friend (Miamur) rehome a cat in need of some rehabilitation. Once he came to us, I soon realised that this little cat was quite special and we have put a good 8 weeks of love, care and attention into him to get his mind and body in shape. He had been wearing a kitten top / shirt that was so small it had affected the way he walked, jumped and moved. It had restricted the muscles in his chest that when it was removed, he wobbled about like a newborn for a good week, falling off everything. He was unable to jump directly onto a table or balance on anything narrow. He found it hard to stretch and move.
It took some 8 weeks to get him to use his body in a more efficient way. he still has a sway hind leg action but with physio and time, we hope this will come right too. He can now jump and run and has found that playing is good fun too which is easier to get him to exercise, especially on the cat wheel, where he has fallen off more than he has managed to use it. Each day we do a few circuits and he is getting able to move it with his own body weight and can stay balanced for longer.
He was very loved at his original home and this shows in his temperament. At first though, he was a bit of a handful and we had quite a few shows of dominance. This has reduced to only a few niggles now as he trusts us more and more. He is beginning to want to lay on us at night time visits and even started drooling when he purrs. Very sweet. He will be a great asset to Maystar and we are glad we could help his breeder and my friend get him to somewhere where he can thrive and add fresh blood to our lines and others that are in need.
Watch this space to see how he grows and develops and eventually, we hope, fathers some litters.
