He took it very personally and being so sensitive felt the loss and sadness too. When he first came to us he was quite stressed with his move and when he figured out he wasn't going to be the boss - boy what a fuss! It took me 5 days to get close to him and allow me to touch him, so I made some rose water and within an hour he was laying next to me on the bed and was fine if I didn't move or touch him. He was so out of his comfort zone that it was a tricky start for everyone. Once he settled in he met Slinky and followed him everywhere learning new things and becoming the confident little cat he was before. He is a sweet boy who always seems to be in the wars somehow. He seems to us clumsier than other cats but then in the next moment the most agile? He is funny and persistent when he sets his mind to something he determined to the very end. We have had to make lots of changes to our house and the way it is run. He has a nervous habit of running from window to window to window and got very agitated and stressed whilst doing it and if a door was closed he would be frantic, so we put in opaque film over the lower windows and blinds for night times. He has 'his' window and is no longer stressed. We can't have any ribbons or long 'anything' as one Christmas he ate 11" of ribbon and nearly died. Luckily knowing the signs, he was at the vets within the hour. They didn't think he would make the morning because he was so perforated inside, so we took him home and we nursed him and drip fed him every 20mins with fluids and later in his recovery, nail sized sloppy food. He made a full recovery and has a great appetite and no ill effects. During his illness we all bonded and he accepted us for the first time, not just living in our home, but participating in family life. It was a very expensive breakthrough. He is a quirky but happy boy, loves the outdoor cat run and enjoys nothing more than sleeping looking out of 'his' window. He will lay for hours at the top of various cat posts looking out of various windows and surveying his property and woe betide any cat who ventures in the garden, he subjects them (and us) to copious amounts of verbal abuse through the window. Because of this, he often gets called the 'Silent Assasin' and 'Securicat'. He doesn't listen, is hard to train or teach anything to, he is stubborn but oh boy is he sweet and cuddly and loving and so cute too. Sadly, after three years, Mr.Zeus and Slinky started to fight like crazy cats and Mr.Zeus was getting more and more stressed again and he was also shedding the corona virus and was being kept seperate in the short term to reduce his stress. So we rang his previous owner (who still has his papers and a say where he goes) to see what we could all do as we were no longer in contact with his breeder.. Mr.Zeus made up his mind one day when our school friends Liza & Brett Nixon came to visit us one afternoon and that was it, he had made his mind up, he wanted to go home with them. they came back for a second visit, bringing with them Billy, Liza's son, and Mr.Zeus and Billy hit it off right away and there was no stopping him getting into their car this time and traveling back to Milton Keynes to live with them. We have visited him and he seems a different cat again. We were obviously a stop gap for his rehabilitation and he deemed himself ready to leave home. Even though we didn't have a clue.... he did! Since his move to Milton Keynes, our dear friend Brett passed away with Liver Cancer. Liza lost her home, so she, Billy & Mr Zeus moved up to Coventry, just 12 doors away and he has been the rock to keep Liza from losing everything in her life. Liza has also become a very useful cat sitter for us too, being so close and we get to see Mr Zeus quite a bit. |
