NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

It has to be said that preparing for a New Year is nothing grand in our home and in fact this year it will be nothing short of non existent again!  Every year ends up the same, all of us piled on the sofa, snuggled into the Parentals warm blankies whilst they recover from, not a hangover, but the lurgy! We cats like a good celebration and we like to caterwaul at all of the explosive fireworks that light up the midnight sky, but I personally, can feel an early night of lemsips and hot toddies instead.  I dread the morning when ManSlave runs around the house 'pinching and punching' everyone shouting 'White Rabbit, White Rabbit... No returns'. I for one am going to hide unless Momma can ambush him and we finally get our own back for a whole years worth of 'pinching & punching'.

Since my huge trek to Pembroke in ManSlaves car on Thurday, to take the MiniCats to their new owners, I feel like I was the only cat again, well if only for a short while, well a day and a night.  We traveled from Pembroke which was a four hour journey onto the Parentals - Parentals another few hours up the coast.  It was here that I had a crazy thought that I could possibly be the only cat in Wales... Well, I YAWPED and YAWPED to see where everyone one was, but no one answered.  I knew those MiniCats had left for Ireland and that's where the plot thickens.  There was, all of a sudden, more food, more love and more dressing me up in 'Noel' socks! I really could be the only cat around and I didn't mind one bit - I just lapped up the love and with my sweet nature I head-butted and kissed everyone and everything until I was asked to fill in for Momma a Wii Sports - then you didn't see me for dust!

So my New Years Resolutions will be:- Wash behind my ears more, be more discrete when stealing food, never step backwards when in the litter tray. Happy New Year to all my fans.

THE TERRIBLE TWOSOME

The MiniCats have enjoyed Christmas Day and have ransacked the lounge and everything in it.  What they create in two minutes, takes Momma most of the morning to clear up!

These two little rapscallions have always played together and raced about together, so on their very very long trip to Pembroke by car and then onwards to Co. Tipperary by Ferry, they should be very well bonded indeed.  It isn't long and I can see the preparations already.  I have spotted not only the Parentals big black bag, but my little case with all my things in too... but only mine?  Does this mean that I too an going to be shipped off to Ireland or does it mean that we are visiting the Parentals - Parentals in Wales?  I hope it's the latter as I would soon be returned!
I go and check that all my food has been packed correctly and that my special Blankie has also been packed and that my litter tray is washed and clean and full of new litter - I do so like to mark that around half way on our journey, that should make them pull over!  I don't travel particularly well, but I will be a good Uncle and check on those little MiniCats and reassure them that's life of car travel is a breeze.  The other end is always lots of fun and you can usually set your own boundaries, so I shall make sure they go with this advice in mind.  I am sure they will adapt well into their new home.

The only thing I am not looking forward too is all the blubbering that will ensue. What with TomFun going to Rainbow Bridge and now the MiniCats leaving home, Momma is in quite a mess.  She knows they will be fine, but she will all miss them thundering around the house and ManSlave will miss the cuddles, Jaz & James had really taken to him!  Oh well, time for me to step up to the mark and fill in the spaces and make myself larger than life when we arrive at our destination.

A STAR IS BORN

Here is another Sunday and this Sunday is special because our Kiss-Mouse tree was put up and decorated.  It's not something we are allowed to participate in and it becomes a watching party of eyes.

Zeus and I sit poised, high up for a good look at the top of the tree and egg each other on and dare to see who might make it up there this year.  Mr.Zeus said that he 'didn't want to be the Fairy this year' so we will have to wait and see who or what will have special pride of place.

Well there we are, us wise ones, just waiting when along comes James and totally ignores our shouts of 'No.  Not yet!'  he just piled in and chose himself the biggest star in the Christmas box.  We all sigh. 'We will never get to see Faith dressed in a tu tu now.'

We were both looking forward to seeing her dressed in a little pink chiffon ensemble waving her magic wand and granting our wishes... but instead James holds up the shiny star to Momma and Momma takes him in her arms and kisses him and tells him how cleaver he is and lifts him high into the tree to place the star on top.  GAH.  The MiniCats have even taken over Christmas it's just not right, there is an order and THAT IS NOT IT!

But reflecting on the little mans performance - why didn't I think of that?

NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOWBUSINESS

This time last year Momma took Faith to a number of shows in our local area, this year she may take Lillibet.  She is avidly looking through show schedules as there are a number of shows she could addend, but Momma is only going to pick one to see how she likes it!

Faith, after doing well as a kitten, hasn't been out as an Adult because she had her some babies.  Well that's not quite true, she did go out once as an Adult cat and was up against 3 and 5 year old kitties and Faith had only just turned 9 months of age, she discraced herself with a yellow rosette - no one talks about it!.  She had a nice write up though, so Momma thinks she could perhaps go out again this Summer and see what she thinks to being judged then - she wasn't really enjoying it because she has been spoiled far too much and allowed to get her own way.  Mmmm I wonder if Lillbet might be the same?  Momma does seem to be spoiling her just as much!

Well the show has been chosen, Lillibet is all booked in.  Her chocolate coat is non existent but her ears are rather large - might this squeaky little beast woo the Judges with her charm and grace alone and may they overlook the fact that her coat has all but fallen out?  She looks more like a chocolate Sphynx than a Devon Rex.  At the end of the day, as long as she presents her self well and is able to be handled and be polite, that's all we ask.  The other thing is - we do rather like red!  So come on Lillibet, carry on from where your Mother left off please and make us proud that the first Maystar kitten is making her debut !

MOTHER'S LOVE

There are some special things in this world and that is the love of your Mother.  Lillibet really is Faith's favourite kitten, it is as though she knows that Lillibet is staying with us and she also knows just how special Lillibet has been towards helping everyone in the house feel better about the loss of TomFun.  She is one of these sweet natured and delicate babies who has, in turn, gone about and cheered everyone up.  She is gentle and kind and has been sticking to Momma like glue - no one, not even me, can get in between them.

Lillibet has also taken it upon herself to lick every one of us in turn and dry our tears. Even Mr. Zeus!  Well in fairness, Mr. Zeus seems more than a little bit happy that TomFun is no longer and has skipped around far too many times around the house shouting "Gone is my Nemesis." Purrsonally, I think it is a little OTT and he should at least wait the alloted time before celebrating.

I, on the other hand have been quiet and sedate and not Yawped much at all and we all forgot it was Sunday today as there was no warning smell emanating from the oven to my nostrils telling me which day of the week it was. There wasn't even a hot meal cooked and in fact, for a whole week we seem to have gone without hot food cooking.  Well there is no point in Yawping for lettuce sarnies now is there?  I hope things pucker up around here soon otherwise it may be another call to CatLine to tell them of my nostril starvation!

OUR BLUE EYED BOY -  Lexifers Tom Thumb 21/1/12 - 10/12/12
The Maystar house is in mourning this week, as on Monday my lovely little Nephew, TomFun, very suddenly passed from this world to the next and joined all of our other Family Members in Rainbow Bridge. It was a reaction to medication given by the Vets that took him away and it hurts so much as we didn't get to say goodbye, he was stolen from our hearts that day.

It is a very sad tail that I don't think I can manage to tell over and over again, but suffice to say that I did really like the little dude, even if his AirBags were getting too big for his brain and his pheromones and presence were much grater than mine.

He was the most loving and happiest of felines and why Rainbow Bridge needed him more that ManSlave and Momma we shall never know.  All we know is that we shall miss his specialness and there will truly never be a little dude like him again.  He loved to gallop and run, chase and play.  He loved the sound of his own feet on the laminate, he loved cuddles and always had enough for everyone, even visitors.  He was always purring and snuggling and sitting on the Parentals shoulders and riding around on Momma's back holding onto her 'ponytail' with his teeth.  He would lick their faces and touch his paws on their eyelids and purr into their ears and bite their chins. He would have to have been like this so that everyone would miss him even more.  I am sure that he gave out enough love in his short little life to sustain all the hearts of thousands. Our hearts are squeezing and twisting with out you and the sound of your chirruping still rings clear in our hearts.

"You're the one I'm dreaming of
Your heart fits me like a glove
And I'm gonna be true blue baby I love you"

DISH OF THE DAY

Since the MiniCats have been let out to rampage my mornings have never been the same.  I am assured that in a few weeks it will all stop and life will return to normality... whatever that is?  I just don't have the time for my usual morning duties anymore, but I do like to reminisce on a purrfect day. I guess now, I do get to watch kitten food in the 'Food Hall' where I can ponder the 101 ways to lure it out from it's jail - It all ads to the tapestry of my busy schedule!

I like to have my breakfast made for me and even though I absolutely HATE to sit for it, I do it because Momma loves me even more!  Then I like to wait for Mr.Zeus to finish his breakfast and I watch him with my eyes half shut as if I am dozing, just in-case I am in for a morsel that has gone unnoticed! I then like to do my morning rituals of Orb Worship - whether it shows its self or not, I am a sucker to the cause and always hold out for Orb Rays through the Orb Cover. After that I would normally seek out a warm spot for some deep meditation but not this weekend, nope, this weekend has been disrupted.

It now all starts with 'them' being fed first.  I can hear the chinking of china and the munching of kibble remotely.  I can hear TomFun plaintive cries emanating from the bathroom as he has finished his meaty and wants to give meaty kisses to everyone.  I can hear litter trays being scooped out and I can hear - finally - footsteps on the stairs heading in my direction.  I wait patiently with tiny YAWPS, behind the door and every morning it catches my toes and every morning I dance around holding up my right paw.  I then jump to the worktop and race along it's length to get me some head-rub action and kisses and then I race to the food door and kiss the handle and YAWP in my loudest YAWP. Then I race again to the shelf where my bowl is kept, all the time receiving kisses on my forehead and I head-butt Momma to wake her up more.  She switches on the kettle whilst I run frantically from food dish to food packet that is now laying face down on the side.  Momma wanders to the fridge, takes out my 'Slinky Meds' and I watch, drooling, whilst she wraps it in a tiny piece of ham and proffers it to me and it's gone, down the slippery slide, untasted down my gullet.  YAWP I say which I feel constitutes to "more."  I dance between her slippered feet and get the odd shove and she snuffles back to my dish and finally, oh finally, she tares the tape from the chicken pouch and I watch as it slips into my dish and is waiting for me to devour it.  It quivers when Momma stirs it and I smell the delicate flavour and hear it's silky juice squelching. This is when the kibble gets added to a little bowl and placed inside my dish to make me eat slowly as I can down this breakfast in 28.6 seconds with out it!

I then dance and spin in a ritual that goes back to the first time I was fed, I am turning pink with excitement and spinning faster and faster until we reach my eating place.  I do a turn on command and then I sit when I am asked - this is allegedly to make me calm and not accidentally bite the feeder - yeah right! I dash forward in anticipation and get me a quick lick before the dish is finally lowered. Agghhh yes, food.  Lovely yummy food.  Now I can really start my day - Bring it all, MiniCats and all!

A LITTLE BIT OF THEATRE!

Life is just like a pantomime in our Pride at times and with three naughty little kittens and their, I have to say, very demanding Mother, a crazy Prince Charming, Security Cat & me!  It's bedlam in tights!

James and Jaz of the MiniCats were like the panto horse, one holding the other around the waste and the other on their hind legs, paws out, staggering towards me... like I was meant to be scared or something?  Lillibet tried her most demure look and rustled her frock and when that didn't work on me she did her scariest of wails and snake like movements to intimidate me. But I am no baddy in this Panto and don't deserve the bad reputation I get as a food thief.  So with everyone booing and hissing I make for stage left where upon my exit is blocked by a damsel in distress.  It's Faith, all coy and bewildered by my handsomeness, she throws her self into my paws with such gusto that I drop her instantly with surprise! - This ensues with more booing and hissing me from the stage.

I bump into TomFun who, like Prince Charming, rushes to Faith's aid and scoops her up lovingly, and a bit possessively for my liking, then kisses her a long and lustful kiss.  OMC!  "She's mine" he growls at me, "Mine I tell you" and proceeds to lower the swooning Faith to ground and then bounds at me in one fearful bound and lays one on me. THWAK! 'This little jumped up squirt has grown,' I thought as I wrestled with him, 'No, seriously, he has put on some muscle and weight'.  I am totally flabbergasted by the sheer size of this pumped up love junkie.  I think if it hadn't been for Mr.Zeus of the household security, dressed like buttons, the whole thing could have ended up quite nastily.  Mr.Zeus took the young whippersnapper by the neck and made for center stage, where upon he let the ruffian, Prince Charming, go with a short sharp back paw across that pretty little face of his.  The Prince staggers to the nearest wailing maiden and tries to cop off with her - Faith is there like Mother Goose, having changed her mind about loving the Prince Charming - NO ONE makes out with her precious Lillibet and gets away with it! Lillibet is inconsolable, so I tentatively tickle under her chin and she smiles at me. "Still got it" I wink at her!

I enter stage right (how does that happen?) and I am immediately the good guy again, phew, I thought that my halo had slipped!  With screams of 'He's behind you', I look and see nothing... then, again, I am jumped from behind by a screaming buffoon with far too much testosterone for anyones liking! I shrug him off, to cheers and clapping of paws, well OK ManSlave rescued me and carried me aloft of the frey! That TomFun is getting far too big for his 'Puss in Boots' if you ask me and if I had another second with him back stage I could teach him a thing or two about working the crowd.  "Really!" I huff and shake my head. I am still a Old Dame at heart!

A NEW GENERATION IS BORN

The thing about babies is they seem to copy everything their Parents do.  This new litter of kittens are no exception, they are copying everything Faith is doing and the traits of her life are rubbing off and influencing these mini cats.  Take young Jaz for example, she looks, act and could be Faith in miniature.

When Faith was little she used to frequent the shower and steal the drain cover and take it out using her paws and then play like a crazy thing.  She would always sit and watch the water flow down the plug hole or even sit and wait for you to pull the sink plug out and wait for the water to fill the shower tray.  It's an infatuation that actually started with Mr. Zeus who is Faith's half Brother, he taught Faith to 'water watch', but never had he stolen the drain cover!

Well just a few years on and Jaz is applying the same learning to the drain cover at only 11weeks old!  Already she has watched Mum flick her paw in a certain way and remove the cover and then stick her paw deep into the shower trap and remove the internal hair trap, after this she dangles into the water and comes out with a very wet paw and you know they have been in the shower as it looks like we have a number of one legged cats walking around leaving paw prints all over the bath mat!

It's been a strange Sunday, normally the early roast would have made the oven, but today the Parentals decided that this morning they were busy, so lunch became dinner and my tummy turned upside down when they started with hot peppers stuffed with feta cheese and then summer Rhonda lamb.  Now for a change, because I had been exceptionally good, I had me some succulent tasty non fat lamb in my little dish at tea time - everyone else had fish! Ha, suckers!
