TRAGIC ENDING TO A BEAUTIFUL BOY

J1 was re-homed after he was neutered after we found Faith's kittens had died of Congestive Heart Failure.  He was given 6 weeks to recover and lose his testosterone, which wasn't easy as he had already turned rather funny after mating Faith and became very frustrated and took it out of poor Ade.  He could be quite the meany when he didn't get a lady friend.  It didn't help that the girls were constantly yelling all day and night.

He was re-homed in Wales near family so we could visit. They fell in love with him and we delivered him and a mountain of equipment to settle him in.  We kept in contact and J1 even made it into the story of Your Cat magazine. I contacted his new family in November to catch up and all was well and very happy indeed.  Fabulous.  Then not two weeks later there was a phone call to say that J1 had become seriously ill and was in the cat hospital on huge doses of diuretics to take fluids away from his abdomen. We all prayed hard and by 11pm that same evening, J1 had passed away, his heart had given out. He had gone into Congestive Heart Failure.  It all is getting far too much recently as we have now lost two of his children and a further two kittens to the same thing. All the lines connected to these will be neutered. It is far too painful for everyone concerned.

At only eighteen months old, J1 came to live with us in September 2014 and move directly into the 'House of Fun', a purpose built stud house originally constructed for TomFun.  He has lots of room to play and his indoor quarters are like a small room with heating and all mod cons, comfy chair and lots of toys and even a mini fridge.  Well, a boy has to entertain!  There is even temporary sleeping quarters for  visiting lady friend... oooh errr! His home also consists of a covered run complete with heated bed for that all important bird watching.

So far, his manners are sweet and he is a kind cat with a gentle nature and very loving.  Time will tell if that changes as his testosterone kicks in properly as he hasn't yet sired any babies. We are sure as soon as he does this then his gangly boys body will turn into a full man cat's body.  He was very stressed when he first arrived and he had trouble settling into his new home. He really tried hard to enjoy all his new experiences but moving an entire adult cat is much harder than placing a kitten.

He has recently been on the show bench to try and achieve his Championship status before having babies.  It would be great to get him at least some of the way so that other ladies apart from our own may like to come and visit and try him out. Although he is a very old fashioned Devon Rex and some judges on the show bench prefer the newer shaped Devon Rex to the more traditional Devons.  Our main aim at Maystar is to keep the lovely plush coats that the Devons of old had as well as the modified wedge shape to the head. J-One achieved Championship status in 4 shows!

Unfortunately, J-One sired kittens with heart defects and he had to be neutered right away and re-homed. It took some time to find him that special place as he has become aggressive after mating and very unpredictable. However, after neutering, he settled very well to the lap cat we know and love. There was too much water under the bridge for him to stay here. None of the other cats liked him after his aggressive outbursts!

J1 has found a wonderful home with Stephanie in Greville in a converted Church beside the sea in Wales.

He is fitting very nicely into his bohemian musical home where lutes and piano are played and sung along to. With 6 cat friends and two doggie pals it's just what J1 needed to satisfy his need for company and has already teamed up with the boys.

Also snuggling up on Stephanies bed and kisses whilst watching TV, we definitely gave him the new life he really needed instead of a solitary one. It hurt him and us to have him pine away for company. But alas, he had used his testosterone on Slinky & Lillibet and neither were willing to ever forgive him. Nope, as hard as it is letting something go you love - to set him free with a stimulating home was his destiny and we were his carriage.
