Devon Rex Care

What do we feed the Maystar Pride?
Firstly and foremost, any animal requires the very best food you can afford. We free feed using microchip feeders because of the many diets for each cat. The main diet of biscuit complete meal comes from Purina OneProPlan Sensitive Turkey, Feringa Duck & Potato and we use Integra Rabbit & Potato for Flaire who doesn't do well on rice. We really like their no nonsense ingredients but most of all everyone love it!
We offer wet food to the entire girls. Two products that we use often are MAC's Turkey and Carrot, Turkey & Veal or Feringa tins. There is no filler in either food and they are made from 97% pure meat.
Kittens are weaned at 4weeks old when their tummies have formed. We start them on raw beef, turkey, Ox & lamb's hearts minced with vitamins, taurine & fish oil for all their vitamin and mineral needs. It is made here at Maystar and frozen in bags ready to defrost and use.

What is the health routine? Even though all our Pride are indoor cats they still have injections for Flu, Enteritis & Leukemia. The only exception is Lillibet, her immune system is very delicate and the vets have given up trying to inoculate her, so she is on homeopathic nosodes. We only have a small household, therefore health is easily maintained. Each cat has it's ears cleaned once a week, eyes wiped daily, claws trimmed as and when and wormed with Panacur paste or milbremax, except Lillibet who gets herbal wormers. Each one gets wiped down with a damp cloth if they smell mousy, usually in winter when they don't go out as much. It's just a routine and everyone is happy to oblige even if they would rather be doing something else! It is really important to have a good rapport with your Vet and ours is really great, we use Vets4Pets in Walsgrave for vaccinations and Broad Lane Vets, Coventry for more advanced stuff. We trust the vets and find them so very helpful, even just for questions or queries, they are always happy to advise. How the Pride are kept?
Our home is a modest three bed house which the cats have access to every room (except during kittening) even the bathrooms and the kitchen. They have 7 litter trays between 9 cats, we really like the the lift up lids on the Nestor litter trays from Crystal Clear. It is important that these are kept very clean and we use Golden Grey Master litter which has crystals added to keep the house smelling fresh and each tray is disinfected each week. We don't use any deoderizers in the form of sprays or plug-ins. When kittens are born we use Breeders Celect and Greenwoods for them and they use this going to their new homes. Wood Chip is used in the House of Fun because it sweeps up easily. We use Safe 4 DEFRA Approved Cleaner in all cleaning duties and spray the cat enclosure inside and especially outside each week as well as the front door for spraying tomcats. Their bowls which are ceramic and stainless steel are dishwashed each day and they have fresh water from bowls in the kitchen and bathrooms. This ensures that the water gets changed twice daily as they are all near taps! All the cats have access to an outside area that is 12ft x 12ft and is fully enclosed with steel mesh panels to the outer sections. There is a Skybridge that takes them over to the House of Fun, where there is a cat wheel made by The Cats' Claws and viewing stations to watch the birds and squirrels. The outside roof is specially designed blue fiberglass which stops the majority of UV rays and the same fiberglass as a 3ft sneeze barrier to the outside world. It is really another room for us and the cats but they do have platforms to watch the birds on their feeders inches away as well as 12 hour access through the cat flap. They just love it! Inside they have 3 very large floor to ceiling cat posts, a special handcrafted driftwood one by Crraoliso Cats in the lounge and a couple from ZooPlus range of solid wood scratchers. The kitten ones we always seem to pick up bargains at Lidl or I make my own.. This gives them exercise as well as vantage points to look outside and get away from each other. We give them an hour a night of full on playtime with 'Cat Frenzy' toys or some cat nip to make them feel frisky. There are numerous plush cat beds, but our Pride prefer to lounge on the main bed, usually on the cream bed linen or even on the fish tank tops where it's nice and warm. They have a long radiator bed made into four compartments for them to keep toasty in winter. |
