Pearl is named after Queen Elizabeth the I. She is a redhead and a rebellious young lady who likes to be in control. Pearl is a also a delightful girl and a pleasure to own. She purrs at the thought of you touching her and has an amazing coat which is both dense and soft to the touch. Both of her parents are well coated and this stems back to the line breeding on both sides where British Short Hair was introduced to strengthen the line. We didn't intend to keep another girl, but Flaire, her Mother, became quite ill after the pregnancy as she had lost quite a lot of blood. So for insurance purposes of the hard work we had put into breeding our own line, Ade decided we should keep her. We knew she would be pretty and has quite a pixy face and lovely ears. She will possibly make a good Mummy cat and is a big strapping girl, not the best type in the world but has it in her genes and has some very good points to her, especially her temperament.
Her delightful nature has charmed everyone she meets, she is confident and very loving as well as funny and quirky with a Torty attitude on occasion which is also very amusing. She back chats and is forever squeaking for attention. She is a real foody and weaned very quickly onto kibble as her choice. She is a little rotund and takes some attributes of her Brit ancestry. Her show bench success has been towards being handled and making sure she enjoys her days out where she shouts for anyone to hold her and kiss her. She gained a red card day on her first outing which we have never had before and is often winning against competition, so quite hopeful we are headed in the right direction to produce an all rounder Devon Rex with fantastic coats and calm but crazy temperaments.
Pearl is a good 'meets and greets' cat for the breed, being very sociable and friendly. When she comes away in the caravan, she is confident and outgoing, happy to meet anyone who stops by to take a look. She happily lets anyone hold her and just wants love and kisses and to be told what a pretty girl she is with her striking blue eyes. We took her to the Pet Show and she excelled in her behaviour. I was so proud of her. At one point in the day, 12 children sat on the floor in a circle and Pearl sat with the children and played with them all very happily. The kids were great, all taking turns cuddling her. Parents stood amazed as phones were pocketed and a talk was given on the Devon Rex and they asked questions and really got involved. And throughout, Pearl was amazing and really enjoyed the attention. She is a good ambassador for Maystar and the breed, Can't ask for any more.
Pearl fits in here very well and is showing her strengths to us each day. She is a pleasure to live with and so kind to the other cats. We are thrilled we kept her with us as security for our line. I love taking her out - I know she isn't everyones cup of tea on the show bench, but she is always the peoples choice - THAT is more important than any rosette in my eyes.
